What if you could stay fit by working out just 20 minutes 3 times per week? Pamela Gold, the founder of HACKD Fitness, a new high-tech fitness studio in NYC, believes you can. At HACKD, the evolution of fitness involves the convergence of science and technology.
Ahead of her “Biohack the World” event tonight at the Assemblage, we spoke to Pamela about the “Aha” moment that inspired the launch of HACKD, her favorite fitness technology, and the coolest workout and meditation spots in NYC.
Can science and technology really help you stay fit by working out just 20min 3x per week?
Absolutely. Evidence has shown that high intensity training is vastly more effective than steady state training, and there are now “smart” tools, computer based, artificially intelligent and data driven, that optimize our results even more than we can achieve on our own. Rehabbing any injury means that we have to go slower, be gentler, so that is the prerequisite to get such an efficient/ effective minimum dose workout, but the tools we now have access to help us rehab smarter and more efficiently, too.
Did you have an “aha” moment that led to the creation of HACKD?
Yup, it was when I was back at “work” (8 years being a mom mostly, besides doing personal training and fitness consulting on the side) – suddenly, I was lucky if I had 20 mins to work out, and my fitness level was plummeting. Culminated with a visit to Tone House (super high intensity, long athletic workout) where I literally couldn’t see after the session… and I became more focused on finding answers to how I could make my 20 min workouts much more efficient. I started listening to podcasts and studying and playing and before long I knew I had to share!
You have a lot of amazing fitness technology and equipment at HACKD. Do you have a personal favorite?
The ARX is our strength training machine, and that’s my favorite because I am very focused on strength. When the rubber meets the road, can I show up and perform? That’s strength training.
Where is the coolest spot in NYC to work out?
Haha HACKD of course! Or Brrrn, because they have awesome instructors, awesome energy and COLD TEMPS!!
What is your go-to spot in NYC to relax or meditate?
Inscape is a really gorgeous spot for meditation, but I have to say the recovery tech at HACKD makes me have to honestly say HACKD. The sauna with vibrational therapy is simply divine!
