Notre Dame: Iconic Cathedral; Disastrous Fire; Uncertain Future

September 9, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Notre Dame Paris laser scan

As the world watched in horror, a disastrous fire on April 15, 2019 threatened to destroy the beloved Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. While the worst was averted and the Cathedral itself still stands, its wooden spire toppled and much of the roof was destroyed. The full extent of the damage to the stone structure is still not known. IFAR has enlisted several noted specialists in stone conservation and medieval art and architecture to discuss the situation.  A program highlight will be the showing of extraordinary laser scans made of Notre Dame by the late Professor Andrew Tallon in 2015, which are being made available to the French government.

Q&A and an Informal Reception will follow the talks.
