About this Event
On November 8 and 9, 2019, hundreds of re-enactors retraced the path of the largest rebellion of enslaved people in United States history, embodying a story of resistance, freedom and revolutionary action. This was the German Coast Uprising of 1811, which took place in the river parishes just outside of New Orleans.
Dread Scott created this tremendous artwork, “Slave Rebellion Reenactment,” and on January 24, he will tell and illustrate the story of the work, and discuss its significance with Andy Zee.
“Slave Rebellion Reenactment” was just named by @ArtNet as one of “The 100 Works of Art That Defined the Decade.”
Andy Zee is the spokesperson for Revolution Books.
General admission $15
Student, low-income/sliding scale $10
A Benefit Wine & Cheese Reception with Dread Scott and Andy Zee will take place at 5:30 pm before the program at Revolution Books: $75 (includes ticket for program)
