Rap and the Italian Renaissance

This Olio event explores the parallels between Netflix’s series Hip Hop Evolution and the canonical narrative of Renaissance Art History. What can we learn through this comparison? Were Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur the Leonardo and Bellini of their day? In what way has the narrative of history, the way it is told, and by whom impact our understanding of culture? These and other questions will be explored in this interdisciplinary deep-dive of art and rap.
